Indonesia and the United States agreed on trade and investment cooperation commitments worth US$38.4 billion, equivalent to Rp649.42 trillion, at the US-Indonesia Business Summit 2026 in Washington D.C. on Wednesday (18 February) local time.

The agreement was announced at a business forum organised by the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, the US-ASEAN Business Council, and the U.S.-Indonesia Society.

President Prabowo Subianto, in his address, affirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining transparency, discipline, and credibility in national economic management to strengthen long-term investor confidence.

“I understand how markets work. Markets value transparency, discipline, and credibility. My responsibility as President is to strengthen governance, enhance transparency, and ensure that we meet international standards,” President Prabowo said.

In detail, the agricultural sector recorded total purchase agreements of US$4.5 billion (Rp76.10 trillion). This comprised commitments for soybean purchases of US$1.37 billion, wheat of US$1.25 billion through to 2030, maize of US$855 million, cotton of US$244 million, and various other agricultural products worth US$800 million.

Meanwhile, the manufacturing industry sector dominated with total agreements reaching US$33.91 billion (Rp573.48 trillion). Key points included a partnership between Kadin (the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry) and USABC worth US$2 billion, the supply of industrial raw materials in the form of shredded worn clothing worth US$200 million, as well as major investment plans in the semiconductor industry of US$4.89 billion and US$26.7 billion respectively.

Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto stated that Indonesia requires strategic business forums involving major US companies to drive cross-sector collaboration.

He added that the cooperation focus is directed towards enhancing national competitiveness through the development of digital innovation, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, critical minerals, supply chain resilience, energy transition, and processing industries.

According to Airlangga, the completion of the Agreement on Reciprocal Trade (ART) serves as proof of both nations’ commitment to opening market access and eliminating trade barriers. The agreement is expected to create stronger business certainty and encourage greater investment flows between Indonesia and the United States.

“Through this ART agreement, market access and the competitiveness of Indonesian products will be further strengthened, thereby attracting greater investment across various sectors,” he said.
