Indonesia and terrorists
Indonesia and terrorists
On Another Embassy bomber gets death penalty, published
Sept. 14, Chief Judge Achmad Sobari had tough words for Iwan
Darmawan Mutho and his involvement in the embassy bombing.
Using religion as a base of an inhumane action destroys the
religion itself. It is greatly fostering negative perspectives
against Islam.
For students abroad, the fact that Indonesia is having
problems related to bombings and Islam, it has given us quite a
rough path. We are haunted by the shame of our country, as well
as all the numerous unfortunate incidents involving foreigners
visiting Indonesia. As we are far from home, we cannot be 100
percent sure about our own safety, while we are away from
Indonesia.
Taking the deterrent approach by executing the convicted
bombers is another way to eliminate terrorism in our country, and
others. Although, if we eliminate two or three terrorists, there
are maybe ten more behind them, planning another attack. In other
words, by executing the terrorists, it also may trigger more
terrorism. So, it is basically a battle between the government
and the terrorists, but the citizens are the ones who are
suffering.
