In opening the bilateral meeting, both heads of state agreed to mutually enhance cooperation amid the current global uncertainties. Prabowo stated that relations between South Korea and Indonesia are very important for achieving economic prosperity for both countries. This is because South Korea has made extraordinary progress in industry, science, and technology.

“We have many resources, we have a large market, we can complement each other,” said Prabowo.

In addition, Prabowo also views Indonesia and South Korea as middle powers with the same concerns.

“We both need stability and peace. But we understand that if we want peace and stability, we must also have good security and defence,” he said.

On the other hand, Lee also mentioned Indonesia’s abundant resources, such as LNG and coal. Therefore, he wants both countries to expand cooperation in energy stability.

“We feel very confident, knowing that Indonesia supplies LNG and coal very stably to Korea. To minimise the impact of this crisis on our economy and people’s lives, we need to expand cooperation between the two countries in energy supply stability and resource security,” he said.

He also noted that Indonesia has enabled South Korea to develop its defence industry.

“Indonesia is the first destination for investment by Korean companies and a valuable partner that has helped enable the development of the Korean defence industry. In addition, Indonesia’s first electric vehicle was produced together with a Korean company,” he said.
