The Indonesian and Russian governments have strengthened strategic industrial cooperation during the BRICS Forum on Partnership on New Industrial Revolution (PartNIR) 2026 in Xiamen, China. Indonesia’s Minister of Industry Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita stated that the forum is crucial for Indonesia and that the country greatly appreciates Russia’s support for its BRICS membership, which opens wider opportunities for economic and industrial partnerships.

During the bilateral meeting, represented by the Director General of Resilience, Regionalisation, and International Industrial Access Tri Supondy, both nations discussed mutually beneficial cooperation in strategic sectors with significant development potential. Tri emphasised that strengthening international communication and partnerships is a key step in expanding market access and industrial networks.

Trade relations between the two countries continue to show positive momentum, with bilateral non-oil and gas trade reaching approximately USD 1 billion in the first quarter of 2026, a 1.13 percent increase year-on-year. Indonesia’s exports to Russia in 2024 were recorded at USD 3.3 billion, up 13.38 percent, with key products including rubber, coffee, cocoa, tea, footwear, electronic components, and chemicals.

Both nations also explored broader collaboration within the BRICS framework, particularly ahead of China’s upcoming chairmanship. Indonesia invited Russia to encourage Chinese business and investor participation in INNOPROM 2026, where Indonesia will be the partner country. The Indonesia–Eurasian Economic Union Free Trade Agreement, signed in December 2025 in St. Petersburg, is expected to further expand market access and boost trade and investment flows between Indonesia and EAEU member states, including Russia.
