JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – Indonesia is expanding opportunities for trade cooperation with Russia in several strategic sectors, including construction, information technology, hospitality, and digital technology. This move is in line with the increasing trade trend between the two countries in recent years.

The potential for cooperation was discussed during a bilateral meeting between Deputy Minister of Trade Dyah Roro Esti and Deputy Minister of Economic Development of the Russian Federation Vladimir Ilyichev in Kazan, Russia, this weekend.

“In addition to trade in goods, Indonesia is also opening up opportunities for cooperation in the services sector,” said Roro in an official statement on Friday (15/5/2026).

“Indonesia is considered to have skilled human resources in the fields of information technology, construction, hospitality, and digital technology that can support the needs of the Russian industry,” she added.

Roro affirmed that Indonesia, under the leadership of President Prabowo Subianto, is committed to continuing to promote industrial downstreaming, increasing added value, and sustainable economic growth.

In addition, the government is also expanding strategic cooperation with Russia, especially in the sectors of trade, investment, and industrial downstreaming.

“The trade relationship between Indonesia and Russia continues to show a positive trend,” said Roro.

“We want to ensure that this momentum can continue to be strengthened through increased mutually beneficial trade and broader investment cooperation,” she continued.

Russia is also a key partner for Indonesia in the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), contributing 90.6 percent to Indonesia’s total trade with the region.

According to Roro, the trade relationship between Indonesia and Russia has been mutually complementary. Russia is a supplier of several strategic commodities for Indonesia, such as coal, fertilizers, and steel products.

Meanwhile, Indonesia exports various superior products to the Russian market, ranging from palm oil, coffee, coconut products, to cocoa.

“Indonesia welcomes the increasing confidence of the Russian market in various national superior products,” said Roro.

“We are committed to maintaining the quality, competitiveness, and sustainability of Indonesian export products in the Russian market,” she continued.

On this occasion, Roro also highlighted the progress of the ratification of the Indonesia-EAEU Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which was signed in December 2025 in St. Petersburg.
