Indonesia and prosperity
Indonesia and prosperity
From Prospek
Indonesia has been independent from colonial rule for almost
50 years. But so far we have not felt that prosperity is equally
spread. I am not saying that our agents of development have
failed in giving substance to freedom. Judging from what we could
witness in real life, we should act wisely and always exercise
introspection. Seen from the social economical point of view, the
gap between the haves and the have-nots keeps widening. It is
very difficult for the little people to make both ends meet. On
the other hand, there are people who live glamorous lives,
possessing a lot of cash and land.
To run a business is one alternative to escape poverty. But it
is only in theory because almost all lines of business has been
dominated by certain parties. I am concerned about the possible
consequence of this situation. In the course of time, this
underprivileged group might engage in a movement with or without
support from a third party.
I am not jealous of the success achieved by a certain group
who has taken control of the Indonesian economy. The people know
how the group has grown so fast, it pays little attention to
workers' welfare. Will this condition ever come to an end?
