“In terms of economic cooperation, we agreed to strengthen collaboration, including local currency settlement and a more robust QR payment system,” Indonesian Foreign Minister Sugiono said in a joint press statement with Philippine Foreign Minister Theresa Lazaro in Jakarta on Thursday.

Indonesia and the Philippines will also enhance connectivity between border cities, such as Manado, Bitung, Davao, and General Santos.

Sugiono said Indonesia welcomed progress in critical minerals partnerships, including the Nickel Alliance, to build a resilient global supply chain.

In the political and security sectors, both countries agreed to strengthen maritime cooperation, improve border management, and accelerate discussions on the delimitation of the continental shelf in accordance with international law.

“We also agreed to strengthen defense industry cooperation, including through the procurement of Indonesian-made defense equipment. In consular matters, we welcome progress in resolving issues involving people of Indonesian and Filipino descent,” he said.

He added that both countries exchanged views on regional and global issues, reaffirming the importance of peace and stability in the South China Sea through full respect for international law, particularly the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

Both sides also emphasized the importance of an inclusive political process in Myanmar to support long-term peace, regional stability, and humanitarian assistance.

Regarding the situation in the Middle East, both countries believe the current ceasefire is a crucial step to prevent further escalation.

Sugiono stressed that stability in the Gulf region is essential, as any disruption would affect security, energy, supply chains, and economic resilience in ASEAN and Asia.

“At the same time, we believe lasting peace and stability in the Middle East cannot be achieved without justice for Palestine, and we both believe that a two-state solution is the only solution,” he said.
