Indonesia and Nine Countries Condemn Israel's Attack on Gaza Flotilla
Jakarta – Indonesia, together with nine countries, strongly condemned Israel’s attack on the Global Sumud Flotilla, a fleet of civilian humanitarian mission ships highlighting the suffering of the Palestinian people.
According to a press release from the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Kemlu) on Tuesday (19 May), the joint statement was issued by the foreign ministers of Türkiye, Bangladesh, Brazil, Colombia, Indonesia, Jordan, Libya, the Maldives, Pakistan and Spain.
“We condemn the ongoing hostilities targeting civilian ships and humanitarian activists. The attacks constitute a flagrant violation of international law and international humanitarian law,” the statement said.
The ministers also expressed serious concern for the safety of civilian participants in the mission.
They urged the immediate release of all detained activists and demanded full respect for their rights and dignity.
In the joint statement, the ministers said that repeated attacks on peaceful humanitarian initiatives reflect a continued disregard for international law and freedom of navigation.
They also urged the international community to fulfil its legal and moral responsibilities to protect civilians and humanitarian missions.
The countries urged concrete steps to end impunity and ensure accountability for the violations that have occurred.
