Jakarta – Indonesia and Japan have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen strategic economic partnership and regional supply chain stability through the implementation of the Second Indonesia-Japan Cooperation Dialogue (IJCD).

The Foreign Ministry announced that the IJCD meeting, held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Friday, was chaired by Indonesia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Arrmanatha C. Nasir and Japan’s Deputy Foreign Minister Akahori Takeshi.

“In the meeting, both parties agreed to strengthen regional supply chain stability and promote collaboration in future sectors, including clean energy, digital economy, and strategic infrastructure development,” according to a statement received in Jakarta on Saturday.

The Foreign Ministry assessed this step as crucial for ensuring resilient and adaptive economic growth amid global uncertainty.

During the dialogue, both parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthen synergies in priority sectors, including trade, investment, energy transition, maritime economy, and strategic industry development.

Japan is regarded as Indonesia’s key partner in supporting Indonesia’s economic transformation agenda through quality investment, industrial downstream integration, and sustainable development cooperation.

Indonesia and Japan also emphasised the importance of cooperation in emerging technologies to strengthen competitiveness, innovation, and ensure economic resilience amid increasingly rapid global disruption.

The meeting also reaffirmed both nations’ resolve to build an increasingly robust, inclusive, and future-oriented economic partnership—not only for each nation’s interests, but also to support stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.

The first IJCD was held in Tokyo in 2021. This second meeting represents follow-up to the 2+2 Foreign Ministers and Defence Ministers meeting of both countries in November 2025.

“This meeting is an important moment to deepen the direction of bilateral cooperation between the two countries amid increasingly complex global geo-economic dynamics,” the Foreign Ministry stated.

Indonesia-Japan diplomatic relations, established since 1958, have continued to demonstrate significant upward trends, from the Strategic Partnership for Peaceful and Prosperous Future in 2006 to the upgraded Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023.

Economically, Japan remains one of Indonesia’s main partners, with total bilateral trade reaching US$32.07 billion in 2025 and investment realisation of US$3.1 billion.
