Indonesia and China Strengthen Synergy in Halal Standards Harmonisation
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia, through the Halal Product Assurance Organising Agency (BPJPH), has invited overseas halal institutions (LHLN) from China to strengthen synergy and harmonise halal standards between the two countries towards the implementation of mandatory halal certification in October 2026. “With the spirit of Indonesia, it is mutually beneficial for the bilateral economy of both countries, making exports easier but more selective,” said BPJPH Head Ahmad Haikal Hasan in his statement in Jakarta on Wednesday. One such effort, Haikal continued, was carried out through a meeting and discussion held earlier this week. He conveyed that his agency invited all LHLN from China, numbering around 18 institutions, to discuss and align the application of halal regulations in force in Indonesia with practices already in place in China. “This becomes an important part in guaranteeing the quality of halal products from upstream to downstream. So, I am calling the LHLN from China for us to jointly build a better economy,” he said. According to Haikal, China was the first country invited to this forum because it has the largest number of LHLN and significant product volume in trade relations with Indonesia. In addition, China is also considered one of the pioneers in the global halal industry with continuously increasing halal product production up to 2026. In the future, BPJPH plans to hold similar meetings with halal institutions from other countries, including those in the European region. “This effort is part of efforts to promote the halal sector as a major contributor to achieving national economic targets,” said Haikal. “Through this forum, BPJPH hopes that international cooperation in halal product assurance will become stronger and able to drive sustainable growth in the global halal industry,” he added.
