Indonesia and China Strengthen Industrial Innovation Cooperation through BRICS Partnership
The Indonesian government and industry players, along with their Chinese counterparts, are strengthening industrial innovation cooperation through the BRICS partnership for the New Industrial Revolution. This reinforcement of collaboration is marked by the opening of the BRICS Industrial Innovation Contest 2026 in Jakarta on Thursday (7/5/2026). The event is seen as a practical implementation of innovation cooperation between Indonesia and China following Indonesia’s official joining of BRICS as the first Southeast Asian country. Director of the International Business Department of China Datang Corporation Limited, Jia Bingjun, stated that Indonesia is one of the key focuses for overseas development for China Datang Corporation. According to him, the company will continue to expand its investments in Indonesia, including in human resource development and the energy sector. “In the future, we will continue to increase the scale of investment in Indonesia, create more job opportunities for the local community, and train more professionals in the energy field,” Jia said in a written statement. “Through this competition, China Datang hopes to use the event as a bridge to connect innovative resources from China and Indonesia, helping Indonesian innovation projects access capital, technology, and international markets, jointly promoting the development of industrial innovation in both countries, and supporting the BRICS Partnership for the New Industrial Revolution,” Jia explained. Deputy Director of the International Economic and Technological Cooperation Centre of China’s MIIT, Zhu Gang, and Deputy General Manager of China Datang Corporation, Li Xiaofei, also expressed hopes that the innovation collaboration between the two countries will continue to develop. They hope that Indonesia-China cooperation can produce more flagship innovation projects that can provide new impetus to the industrial revolution in BRICS countries. According to him, the industrial innovation cooperation between the two countries is also continuously improving. “This competition provides an extraordinary platform for Indonesian innovators to access global resources,” explained Chandra. He hopes that Indonesian innovators can utilise this cooperation opportunity to expand access to technology and international markets.
