Indian troupe to highlight cultural night
JAKARTA (JP): A group of eight Indian classical dancers will
take part in a cultural evening on Nov. 20 at Sahid Jaya Hotel on
Jl. Sudirman in Central Jakarta.
The dance troupe, headed by Usha Venkateswaran, will be
performing such well-known pieces as Kathak, Bharat Natyam,
Odissi and Fantasia.
The event, organized by the Indonesia-India Friendship
Association, is being held to commemorate the 50th anniversary of
Indonesia's independence.
In addition to Indian dances, various Indonesian national
songs and folk songs will be presented.
The association is also publishing a book containing
interviews and articles by prominent Indonesian freedom fighters
to ascertain how India encouraged Indonesia in its struggle for
freedom.
The Indonesia-India Friendship Association was formally
inaugurated six years ago. It is chaired by Lt.Gen. (ret.) Soegih
Arto, a former Indonesian ambassador to India. (lem)
