Indian community leader dies

JAKARTA (JP): Ujagar Singh, a senior Indian community leader in Jakarta, died of a heart attack at his residence in Sunter Agung, North Jakarta, yesterday. He was 84 years old.

A relative said last night that Singh, a founder of the Sikh Temple in Indonesia, would be cremated at the Cilincing cemetery this morning.

Singh helped found the Sikh community in Indonesia, now numbering about 20,000 people, and participated in the building of some of the Sikh temples in Jakarta and other cities in the country. His last position was Vice President of the Sikh Gurudwara Mission.

Born in Jalandhar, Punjab, Singh is survived by his wife and six children. (emb/anj)
