The issue is not merely about war tickets, but how we can accelerate queues for the elderly, for those at high risk, and for those who cannot wait too long.

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Member of the House of Representatives’ Commission VIII, Maman Imanul Haq, believes that the proposal for implementing a war ticket scheme for Hajj, put forward by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah (Kemenhaj) for future Hajj pilgrimages, needs to be studied carefully.

Maman assesses that the more important issue than the war ticket controversy is efforts to speed up departure queues for pilgrims with special conditions, such as the elderly or those with high health risks (risti).

“The issue is not just about war tickets, but how we can accelerate queues for the elderly, for those at high risk, and for those who cannot wait too long,” Maman said during the Working Meeting (Raker) of Commission VIII of the House of Representatives with the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah in Senayan, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

According to him, policies to accelerate queues for pilgrims with special conditions could be a solution for those who cannot wait too long to perform the Hajj pilgrimage.

“We do not want anyone to have to wait another 30 or 40 years to go on Hajj, until they wonder if they will still be alive when their turn comes,” he said.

Maman stated that Commission VIII of the House of Representatives is committed to supporting the success of the 2026 Hajj organisation.

He even mentioned that House members are ready to act as spokespersons in their respective electoral districts to ensure the public knows about the government’s readiness in organising the Hajj.

“We have a commitment to make this Hajj a success. We are even ready to be spokespersons in our respective electoral districts to convey that there is no more systematic and ready preparation than this year’s Hajj preparations,” he said.

Dahnil explained that this proposal emerged as a step in the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah’s transformation in managing the Hajj pilgrimage. The Ministry wants the current Hajj queue, which averages 26.4 years, to continue to be shortened.

“This (proposal) was conveyed in the National Working Meeting of the Ministry of Hajj, which was used to discuss Hajj preparations on one hand, both short-term and long-term regarding Hajj governance,” he said.

“Then it was picked up by journalists, and it developed into an advancing issue, because all parties are thinking together to convey their respective ideas. I think this makes for progressive policies because we openly convey them to the public,” added Deputy Minister of Hajj and Umrah Dahnil.
