Impact of War with US-Israel: Iranian Citizens Unable to Celebrate Eid al-Fitr
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Iranian citizens are at risk of being unable to celebrate Eid al-Fitr 1447 H as their country remains embroiled in war with the United States and Israel.
“Although this is a situation during the holy days of the month of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr is approaching soon, the people of Iran cannot celebrate this important and Islamic moment,” said the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Indonesia, Mohammad Boroujerdi, during a press conference at the Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Headquarters in South Jakarta on Wednesday (18/3/2026).
He stated that the war has destroyed homes, public facilities, hospitals, and schools. Civilian casualties are mounting, including women and children.
“We report that the most senior and oldest war victim in our country is 88 years old, while the youngest is an infant only three days old,” said Boroujerdi.
On that occasion, the General Chairman of PMI, Jusuf Kalla (JK), said that his organisation always sides with helping civilians who become victims of warfare, including Iranian citizens.
PMI, he said, will send medical aid to the people of Iran. The plan is for the humanitarian aid to be purchased from the nearest countries and delivered to Iran.
“So we have decided, in accordance with Iran’s needs, to send medicines that match the needs there through countries close to Iran such as Pakistan, Turkey, and so on via the local Red Crescent or Red Crescent,” said the 10th and 12th Vice President of Indonesia.
