Immigration Waives Overstay Fees for Foreign Tourists Affected by Middle East Conflict
The Directorate General of Immigration has waived overstay charges for foreign tourists in Indonesia who are affected by the conflict between the United States and Israel with Iran. Under immigration law, foreign tourists who exceed their permitted stay are charged a fine of IDR 1 million per day. However, via Directorate General of Immigration Circular IMI-GR.01.01-133 dated 1 March 2026, the Directorate General of Immigration set the charge to zero rupiah for those experiencing overstay due to this situation. “We urge international travellers, especially on routes affected by transit through the Middle East, to always check flight status via the official airline app,” said Acting Director General of Immigration Yuldi Yusman in an official statement on Sunday 1 March 2026. “And coordinate promptly with airline authorities or airport staff if immigration assistance is required,” he added. Head of Ngurah Rai Immigration Office, Bugie Kurniawan, guaranteed that the processing of emergency residence permits will be completed on the same day (same-day service). It has been noted that 54 foreign nationals had applied for ITKT extensions at Ngurah Rai Immigration Office as of Tuesday 3 March 2026 at 15:00 WITA. “Passengers under such conditions will receive exemption from overstay fines at the Airport Immigration Checkpoint (TPI) provided they attach an official declaration letter from airport authorities or the airline,” Bugie said, quoted by Kompas.com, Wednesday 4 March 2026. Currently, Ngurah Rai Immigration has opened help desks or relief posts at two locations: Level 2 of the International Departure Terminal at I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport and the Ngurah Rai Immigration Office in Jimbaran, Badung.
