JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Director General of Immigration, Hendarsam Marantoko, has assured that immigration services will continue to run normally during the implementation of the Work From Home (WFH) policy for Civil Servants (ASN).

“We ensure that the operational aspects of immigration services will not be disrupted. WFH is intended for ASN who carry out management support tasks. For service officers or those conducting immigration supervision, they continue to work as usual,” said Hendarsam in a written statement on Friday (10/4/2026).

Hendarsam stated that ASN who remain on duty as usual on Fridays include all personnel stationed at Immigration Offices (passport and residence permit services), immigration check points (TPI) at international airports, ports, and border crossing posts, as well as intelligence and immigration supervision units.

He added that the Directorate General of Immigration is also conducting strict oversight of the work effectiveness of employees implementing WFH.

“Every direct supervisor is required to monitor daily work results to ensure productivity remains maintained even if not physically present at the office,” said Hendarsam.

“The interests of the public are the top priority. I have instructed all regional office heads, immigration office heads, and immigration detention house heads to monitor directly in the field and ensure services continue to run quickly, transparently, and without obstacles. The implementation of WFH must not reduce the quality of services that we have built so far,” he stated.

Previously, working from home or Work From Home (WFH) for one day a week for civil servants (ASN) officially took effect starting Friday (10/4/2026).

This flexible work policy is newly implemented, considering that Friday (3/4/2026) was a public holiday to commemorate the death of Isa Almasih.

The implementation of WFH for ASN every Friday is one of the government’s policies to save or achieve efficiency, particularly related to energy following the outbreak of conflict in the Middle East.

“WFH for ASN in central and regional agencies is carried out for one working day per week, namely every Friday,” said Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto when announcing the policy on Tuesday (31/3/2026).

Airlangga also emphasised that public services will continue to run despite the WFH policy every Friday.

“Public services will continue to operate, and productive activities including banking, capital markets, and others will continue to run. They are permitted to arrange it at their offices with certain applications,” said Airlangga.
