Immigration Deports 13 Japanese Nationals Involved in Online Scam Syndicate in Bogor
Jakarta - The Class I Non TPI Bogor Immigration Office has deported 13 Japanese nationals involved in online scamming. They were repatriated to their home country after being proven to have abused their stay permits and engaged in cyber criminal activities in the Bogor Regency area. Head of the Bogor Immigration Office, Ritus Ramadhana, explained that the case’s uncovering began with intensive observations by the Intelligence and Law Enforcement Immigration Team (Inteldakim) over several days in the Sentul area, Babakan Madang. “This activity is a follow-up to indications of suspicious activities that we monitored in the field. Officers then proceeded to conduct an inspection on Monday night (2/3/2026),” Ritus stated in his remarks on Tuesday (14/4/2026). In the operation, officers searched three different houses. In addition to finding the 13 Japanese nationals, officers also seized several pieces of evidence strengthening suspicions of cross-border crime. The evidence included items resembling Japanese Police identities; communication devices (mobile phones and computers); as well as signal boosters and jammers. Ritus added that during the raid, three of them were unable to show travel documents or passports. Based on in-depth examinations, they were suspected of running a scam scheme targeting Japanese nationals from Indonesia. Meanwhile, the Director General of Immigration, Hendarsam Marantoko, emphasised that this administrative action in the form of deportation and blacklisting is a form of commitment to upholding legal sovereignty. During the handling process, Immigration closely coordinated with the Police Attaché at the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta. “We do not tolerate the misuse of stay permits, especially when used for criminal acts. We do not want Indonesia to be used as a base for transnational crime,” said Hendarsam. For this success, the Japanese Embassy in Jakarta expressed appreciation to Indonesian Immigration. The Embassy also covered all repatriation costs and provided full support for escorting the perpetrators until they arrived in Japan to undergo legal processes in their home country. Before being deported, the 13 foreign nationals were temporarily held at the Jakarta Immigration Detention House. They are now officially on the blacklist to prevent re-entry into Indonesian territory. “Supervision of foreigners is our vital function to ensure compliance with Law No. 6 of 2011 on Immigration,” Ritus concluded. It is known that the Class IA Non TPI Bogor Immigration Office uncovered an online scam syndicate carried out by foreign nationals (WNA) in Sentul, Bogor, West Java. As many as 13 Japanese men were arrested. “The 13 foreign nationals identified are Japanese citizens, suspected of conducting cyber activities, or online scamming in the form of extortion using Japanese police attributes, carried out in an organised manner,” said Acting Director General of Immigration of the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections, Brigadier General Yuldi Yusman, during a press conference at the Bogor Immigration Office on Wednesday (4/3).
