IMF data show Indonesia increases borrowings
WASHINGTON (Reuters): Russia and Brazil made big repayments to
the International Monetary Fund in the year to July 31, according
to IMF figures released on Thursday.
The figures, published on the IMF's web site, also show
Indonesia increased its borrowings from IMF to US$10.49 billion
as of July from $9.34 billion a year earlier.
The data also indicate that Russia repaid US$3.62 billion in
the year to July, bringing its debts to the IMF down to $12.66
billion. Russia, the IMF's largest single borrower, repaid $237
million in June.
The IMF figures showed Brazil, which made a big repayment to
the IMF in April, repaid a net $7.46 billion in the year to July.
Brazil made no repayments in July and owed the IMF $1.78 billion
at the end of the month.
The IMF released its figures in Special Drawing Rights, the
basket of currencies it uses for accounting. The following table
gives the sum each country owes the IMF in millions of dollars at
current exchange rates of $1.310 per SDR.
A negative figure means that the country has reduced its debt
to the IMF over the year to July 31. A positive one shows it was
a net borrower from the IMF over the year.
