Illegally Parked Police Tow Truck Causing Traffic Jams Towed Away in West Jakarta
Jakarta — A police-owned tow truck that drew complaints from residents after being illegally parked on the side of Jalan Haji Lebar in Meruya Selatan, Kembangan, was ultimately towed away by officers from the West Jakarta Transportation Agency (Sudinhub).
“Two vehicles were towed to the West Jakarta Sudinhub office for further processing,” said Agus Prasetyo, Head of the West Jakarta Transportation Agency, speaking to reporters on Thursday, 19 February 2026.
He explained that of the two vehicles towed, one was a police-owned tow truck and the other a privately owned vehicle belonging to a resident.
Agus said the enforcement action against the police tow truck was carried out on Wednesday, 18 February 2026, as a follow-up to public reports of vehicles illegally parked on the road shoulder.
“We have followed up on the public report in Meruya Selatan, near the toll road, regarding illegal parking on the road carriageway on Wednesday, 18 February 2026,” he said.
He explained that the owners of the towed vehicles must visit the West Jakarta Transportation Agency office to process the retrieval of their vehicles.
As of now, the agency is still coordinating with local police to determine which unit parked the vehicle on the public road shoulder.
“It is not yet known which police unit was responsible. We are still investigating and coordinating,” he said.
The West Jakarta Transportation Agency confirmed it would continue to respond promptly to every public complaint regarding suspected illegal parking violations causing public concern.
Surveillance on Jalan Haji Lebar will also be stepped up as a preventive measure to ensure similar incidents do not recur.
“There will be surveillance, but given the limited number of our personnel, we ask for the public’s understanding regarding the frequency,” Agus said.
Previously, residents had complained about the tow truck being parked on the side of Jalan Haji Lebar in Meruya Selatan.
In a video that went viral on social media, residents argued the tow truck posed a danger as it was parked on a bend and was causing traffic congestion, particularly during school drop-off and pick-up hours.
Nasrullah, the head of RW 01 Meruya Selatan, said the police tow truck had only been parked on Jalan Haji Lebar for a few days after breaking down.
“It doesn’t usually park there. I received information that it was parked there because the tyres were damaged,” Nasrullah said.
