The Central Leadership Council of the Indonesian Association of Market Traders (IKAPPI) has projected that the peak increase in basic commodity prices will occur in the lead-up to Eid al-Fitr this year. The price surge is driven by high consumer demand amid the dynamics of national food supply.

IKAPPI’s Secretary-General, Reynaldi Sarijowan, disclosed that several important commodities have already exceeded normal price levels. Various essential items monitored by IKAPPI have experienced significant price increases.

Beyond the commodities mentioned, IKAPPI also highlighted the movement of cooking oil prices. Although the government is attempting to steer prices towards the official ceiling of Rp15,700 per litre, prices in traditional markets, particularly on Java, remain relatively elevated.

Amid these pricing challenges, IKAPPI expressed special appreciation for President Prabowo Subianto’s policy of using domestic agricultural products in Eid al-Fitr gift parcels. “This is the first time in history and we greatly appreciate President Prabowo’s support for domestic production. This provides positive sentiment for our food ecosystem,” said Reynaldi in an official statement.

IKAPPI also issued an early warning to the government regarding the critical third phase—H+3 to H+7 after Eid al-Fitr—when price increases risk returning due to supply chain disruptions. This situation arises from the continued travel of market traders during the return journey of the homecoming exodus. IKAPPI urged the government to ensure that food distribution remains smooth to prevent stock shortages in markets across the nation, which could trigger further inflation.

Reports from various regions confirmed significant price increases. In Bangka Belitung Province, raw chilli pepper has reached Rp100,000 per kilogram, up from the previous Rp60,000 per kilogram—representing a 25 percent increase. Onions and garlic have recorded price increases of 5 to 10 percent, whilst red chilli and large chilli prices have also risen. In Makassar, premium grade one rice has increased from Rp14,400 per kilogram to Rp15,200 per kilogram, and premium grade two rice has risen from Rp14,000 per kilogram to Rp14,800 per kilogram.
