REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, BANDUNG - The Advisory Board of the Universitas Padjadjaran Alumni Association (IKA Unpad), MQ Iswara, welcomed the positive step taken by the IKA Unpad Bandung City Management (Pengkot) in conducting organisational consolidation through the election of new executives. This step is seen as essential to ensure the continuity of the alumni’s role for their alma mater and society.

“I welcome the activities carried out by IKA Unpad Pengkot Bandung under the leadership of Kang Diky. Organisational consolidation is a necessity in selecting new executives,” said Iswara when met on the sidelines of the event at the Bandung City Hall, Tuesday (5/5/2026).

Iswara emphasised three main points that should be the focus for IKA Unpad moving forward. First, regarding the strengthening of silaturahmi that must be supported by a robust database.

“Silaturahmi can be maintained well if the alumni database is properly managed and updated every year. Data by name, by address, by number must be available because the number of alumni continues to grow every year,” said this former General Secretary of IKA Unpad.

The second point, he said, is the importance of support among alumni through intensive communication. However, the third point, which is no less crucial, is the role of alumni in helping to elevate Unpad’s international reputation.

Iswara also highlighted Unpad’s position in the world rankings, which currently stands around the 500th rank. He hopes that alumni can contribute to helping the university achieve the target of entering the top 300 QS World University Rankings.

“Alumni play a significant role there, especially in the assessment aspects related to graduates. From how long graduates wait to get a job, to the amount of their first salary received. Things like this will influence our university’s ranking on the world stage,” he said.

Iswara also gave appreciation for the performance of the previous management. According to him, IKA Unpad Bandung has so far demonstrated an active role, both in assisting the central IKA Unpad programmes and synergising with local government.

“The previous period’s management was quite active in helping the centre as well as playing an active role in programmes of the West Java Provincial Government and the Bandung City Government,” he said.

Chairman of IKA Unpad Bandung City Management Dicky Wishnumulya Rustandi said that this 2026 Bandung City IKA Unpad Management Deliberation carries the spirit of gotong royong, gathering ideas and energy to ensure that the role of Unpad alumni is directly felt by the wider community.

According to him, by adopting the tagline ‘Connect, Collaborate, Change Bandung’, it is hoped that all the intellectual power of alumni can be mobilised to strengthen their strategic role in national and regional development. The solidarity of alumni and cross-professional synergy they possess should be utilised as much as possible to develop a collaborative environment that embodies silih rojong, silih tulungan, silih asah, silih asih, and silih asuh, wherever Unpad alumni are located.

“This Muskot is crucial amid the complex challenges of Bandung City’s development at present, ranging from waste management issues, public transportation, hydrometeorological disasters, traffic congestion, to the rate of economic growth that requires smart and integrated solutions,” he said.

Unpad alumni, he said, must be present to bring concrete ideas in optimising more sustainable urban governance, so that Bandung remains a comfortable home for all its residents.

“Through this event, we are calling on Unpad alumni, known as servants of society and nurturers of the nation, to together ignite the fire of the future, and take on strategic roles as candidates for Chairman of IKA Unpad Pengkot Bandung for the next four years, in the 2026-2030 term,” he said.
