How is your fasting going today? Do not miss the iftar schedule for the Lombok area, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), and surrounding areas today.

During the holy month of Ramadhan, Muslims observe fasting from dawn until sunset. Throughout the day they abstain from eating, drinking, and other things that could invalidate the fast.

Knowing the fasting schedule can serve as a guide for Muslims to determine the times for sahur, breaking the fast, and the five daily prayers. In this way, the sequence of worship during Ramadhan can be conducted more orderly, focused, and carried out optimally.

Dua for breaking the fast

The time of breaking the fast is not only about quenching thirst and hunger. Muslims are also advised to increase supplication when breaking the fast.

Here are two duas for breaking the fast based on the explanation of Ustaz Adi Hidayat in the video ‘Tentang Doa Berbuka Puasa (Part 2)’ uploaded to his YouTube channel.

Version One

ذَهَبَ الظَّمَـأُ، وابْــتَلَّتِ العُرُوقُ، وثَــبَتَ الأَجْرُ إِن شَاءَ اللهُ

Dzahabaz zhama’u wabtallatil ’uruqu wa tsabatal ajru, insyaallah

Meaning: “The thirst has vanished, the throat is moistened, and with the will of Allah the reward has been established. Insha’Allah.” (Hadith Abu Daud)

Version Two

Allaahumma lakasumtu wabika aamantu wa’alaa rizqika afthortu birahmatika yaa arhamar-roohimiina.

Meaning: “O Allah because-Mu I fasted, with-Mu I believed, and upon Your sustenance I break my fast (with) Your mercy, O Most Merciful of the merciful.” (Hadith Bukhari and Muslim)

Based on Ustaz Adi Hidayat’s explanation, the practice of performing the above breaking-fast duas can be combined. Thus, the Dzahabazh zhoma’u dua is read first as an opening, then followed by the Allahumma laka shumtu.

So, when is the right time to recite the breaking-fast dua? Almanhaj’s site notes that the Prophet Muhammad typically recited the Dzahabaz zhoma’u dua after breaking the fast. This also accords with the meaning of the dua itself, i.e., “The thirst has gone and the veins have been moistened…”.
