If Tax Ratio Reaches 11 Per Cent, Purbaya Will Award Bonuses to Finance Ministry Staff
Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has pledged to request bonuses from the President for all staff at the Directorate General of Taxation (DJP) and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise (DJBC) if Indonesia’s tax ratio reaches 11 per cent next year.
“I will request bonuses from the President if our tax ratio next year can increase to approximately 11 per cent,” Purbaya said at the Ministry of Finance in Jakarta on Tuesday, 10 March 2026.
Accordingly, Purbaya urged all Finance Ministry staff to work maximally whilst maintaining integrity to boost state revenues.
According to him, increasing the tax ratio is one of the key targets expected to expand the government’s fiscal space, allowing the government to increase state spending to drive economic growth. This will be pursued alongside the government’s efforts to strengthen the digital system, particularly through the implementation of the Core Tax System (Coretax).
Purbaya noted that tax digitalisation through Coretax is beginning to show an impact on increasing revenues.
“How much has risen because of Coretax? It’s a fairly large increase compared to last year—30 per cent increase in tax revenue,” he said.
Beyond the tax sector, Purbaya assured that digitalisation will also be strengthened at the Directorate General of Customs and Excise. The Finance Ministry will also enhance supervision systems and strengthen communication with business operators to prevent potential revenue leakage.
However, Purbaya added, the success of this system will ultimately depend on the integrity of human resources.
“No matter how sophisticated the system, if people have weak integrity it will definitely fail,” he said.
