Idul Fitri falls on Nov. 3: Muhammadiyah
JAKARTA: The country's second-largest Muslim organization, Muhammadiyah, announced on Saturday that Idul Fitri would fall on Nov. 3.
Muhammadiyah secretary-general Goodwill Zubir said the decision was made based on its hisab (Islamic calendar calculation method).
Nahdlatul Ulama, the country's largest Muslim organization, has yet to announce when its followers will celebrate Idul Fitri. The group's method is based on rukyah (moon sighting).
The government has declared Nov. 3 and Nov. 4 a national holiday to celebrate Idul Fitri, which marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadhan.
As most Indonesians started the fasting month on the same day this year, it was expected they would celebrate Idul Fitri on the same day. -- JP
