Jakarta, VIVA – Paediatric cardiac consultant and Chairman of the Indonesian Paediatric Association (IDAI), Dr Piprim Basarah Yunarso, has claimed he was dismissed by Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin. The statement was made by Dr Piprim on his personal Instagram account on Sunday evening, 15 February 2026.

"Assalamualaikum warrohmatullahiwabarakatuh, I have finally been dismissed by the Health Minister Budi Gunadi Sadikin," he said, as quoted from his Instagram account on Monday, 16 February 2026.

In his statement, Dr Piprim also expressed his apologies to all paediatric patients at Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (RSCM), medical students at the University of Indonesia, residents, prospective paediatricians, and fellows training as paediatric cardiac consultants following his dismissal.

"To all my patients, particularly at RSCM, my students, my pupils, resident prospective paediatricians, and my paediatric cardiac consultant fellows, I sincerely apologise as I am no longer able to accompany you in pursuing your education," he said.

Piprim also revealed that the controversy surrounding his dismissal began two months prior, when he was forcibly transferred by the Director General of Health at the Ministry of Health, Dr Azhar Jaya. At that time, he said he was summoned by one of his seniors, Prof. Rinawati Rohsiswatmo, Sp.A (K).

During the meeting with his senior, Piprim was warned that if he did not cooperate with the collegium currently under the Ministry of Health, he could face a forced transfer.

"Prof. Rinawati Siswanto told me, 'Prim, if you refuse to cooperate with the collegium established by the Health Minister, you will be transferred,' whereas I was merely carrying out the mandate of the National Congress of Paediatric Medicine in Semarang, which determined that the Indonesian Paediatric Collegium must remain independently established," he said.

Piprim explained that the decision to fight for the collegium's independence and reject placing the organisation under the Health Minister was in accordance with the mandate of the National Congress of Paediatric Medicine in Semarang, which resolved that the Indonesian Paediatric Collegium must remain independent.

"However, my struggle alongside colleagues at IDAI and the professors who wished for this collegium to remain independent has culminated in a forced transfer, and because I refused the transfer — which did not comply with the meritocratic principles governing the transfer of a civil servant — I was subsequently dismissed by the Health Minister," he said.
