Ibrahim Arief to Face Verdict Hearing in Chromebook Case on 12 May 2026
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Former technology consultant Ibrahim Arief will face the verdict reading or sentencing hearing for the alleged corruption case in the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops on 12 May 2026. “The panel of judges requires time to compile this decision and has postponed the verdict reading for two weeks, to 12 May 2026,” stated the Chief Judge, Purwanto S Abdullah, during the hearing at the Jakarta Corruption Court on Tuesday (28 April 2026). The judge explained that the verdict was delayed by two weeks because several other cases needed to be resolved in the interim. On Thursday (30 April 2026), the panel of judges will first deliver verdicts for two defendants from the ministry officials, namely Sri Wahyuningsih and Mulyatsyah. “Next week, we will focus on completing the evidentiary process for the Nadiem case, on 4, 5, and 6 May,” said Judge Purwanto. The prosecutor demanded a 15-year prison sentence for Ibrahim Arief, along with a fine of Rp 1 billion or subsidiary 190 days in prison. He was also required to pay restitution of Rp 16.9 billion or subsidiary 7.5 years in prison. In the indictment, Ibrahim was not accused of enriching himself personally, but of jointly committing unlawful acts. In this case, Ibrahim, commonly known as Ibam, is believed to have prepared a technical study referencing a specific product, namely Chromebook. Additionally, Ibrahim presented several materials to ministry officials. Meanwhile, the other two defendants, Director of Primary Schools at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology for 2020–2021 and Budget User Representative (KPA), Sri Wahyuningsih, and Director of Secondary Schools at the Ministry for 2020–2021 and KPA, Mulyatsyah, were each demanded a six-year prison sentence with a fine of Rp 500 million. “Demanding that the panel of judges impose a prison sentence of six years with a fine of Rp 500 million or subsidiary 120 days in prison on the defendant,” stated prosecutor Roy Riady when reading the demand. Sri and Mulyatsyah are alleged to have pressured several commitment-making officials (PPK) to select Chromebook as the product for procurement. In this case, Mulyatsyah is said to have received SGD 120,000 and USD 150,000. However, before the demand was read, he had returned money amounting to Rp 500 million, and some of the money he received had been distributed to several parties.
