Jakarta – During his Ramadan recess agenda to review the Stimulated Self-Help Housing Assistance Programme (BSPS) for 2026 in Magetan Regency, Vice Chair of the Indonesian People’s Consultative Assembly (MPR RI), Edhie Baskoro Yudhoyono, known as Ibas, emphasised that the development of adequate housing is not merely physical construction but rather the development of dignity and the future of Indonesian families.

In his remarks, he conveyed that Ramadan teaches values of care, empathy, and a spirit of shared responsibility. These values form an important foundation in implementing the BSPS Programme as a tangible expression of state presence among the community.

“Today we are not merely building houses. We are building dignity. A house is not simply a roof; a house is a sense of security,” Ibas stated in his written remarks, quoted on Saturday, 28 February 2026.

The Stimulated Self-Help Housing Assistance Programme (BSPS) represents the state’s endeavour to assist low-income communities in obtaining adequate housing. The programme emphasises a spirit of mutual cooperation, wherein the state provides stimulus and the community actively participates in the development process.

During his visit, Ibas directly inspected houses of BSPS assistance recipients that have been realised for 20 families in Tinap Village. Through this programme, each recipient receives assistance totalling 20 million rupiah to improve housing conditions previously deemed inadequate.

He also reminded that the right to adequate housing is guaranteed in the 1945 Constitution Article 28H, and therefore the implementation of housing programmes must be viewed as a constitutional mandate that must be jointly upheld.

“Adequate housing gives rise to worthy hope. When a house is strong, families find peace. When families are at peace, children have space to grow, learn, and dare to dream. From there, superior generations emerge who will bring progress to villages and nation,” he said.

He also encouraged that housing development be aligned with strengthening village potential, ranging from robust agricultural sectors, improved MSMEs, to the emergence of accomplished children.

“Every family must have aspirations. Every house must have hope,” he said.

He invited all members of the community to maintain unity, nurture the spirit of mutual cooperation, and continue working to build villages.

“If villages are strong, the nation is strong. Indonesia advances. Ramadan is religious, strengthening the nation,” he concluded.
