JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - The panel of judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court sentenced former technology consultant Ibrahim Arief, alias Ibam, to four years in prison in the alleged corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops.

Responding to the verdict, Ibam’s lawyer, Boy Bondjol, indicated the possibility of filing an appeal and pointed out the evident doubts within the judicial panel in deciding the case.

“Alhamdulillah. There is a dissenting opinion, but from the aggravating considerations, we also see some hesitation there, in the panel’s decision on this case. Indeed, today’s verdict does not meet our expectations,” said Boy.

Nevertheless, the legal team assured that they would exercise the right to appeal as provided by the applicable regulations.

Boy also requested support so that the legal process Ibam undergoes can result in a verdict deemed fair by their side.

“So once again, we still ask for support, assistance from all friends so that this legal process allows Ibam to obtain justice, of course with an acquittal verdict,” stated Boy.

Previously, the panel of judges at the Jakarta Corruption Court imposed a four-year prison sentence on former technology consultant Ibrahim Arief, alias Ibam, in the alleged corruption case involving the procurement of Chromebook-based laptops.

Purwanto stated that Ibam was proven guilty and imposed a prison sentence along with a fine of Rp500 million.

The deadline for paying the fine can be extended by one month.

“It is stipulated that if the fine is not paid within the specified period, the convict’s assets or income may be seized and auctioned to settle the unpaid fine. If the proceeds from the seizure and auction of assets and income are insufficient or it is not possible to carry out the settlement of the unpaid fine, it shall be replaced with imprisonment for 120 days,” he explained.

In addition, the judges stipulated that the pre-trial detention period served by the defendant shall be fully deducted from the imposed sentence.

The panel of judges also ordered that Ibrahim Arief remain in custody.

“It is stipulated that the defendant be detained,” he emphasised.

Meanwhile, the dissenting opinion from Member Judge II Eryusman and Member Judge IV Andi Saputra assessed that there was no direct role or malicious intent by the defendant in the case.
