IABC represents private sector interests
The Indonesia-Australia Business Council (IABC), established
in 1989, is recognized as the body which represents private-
sector interests in commercial relations between Indonesia and
Australia.
The formation of the IABC is the result of a merger between
Dewan Kerja Sama Pengusaha Indonesia-Australia (DKSPIA) and the
Australian Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia (AUSTCHAM), two
business groups that had operated in Indonesia for over 15 years
with support from the business members of the Australian Alumni
Association of Indonesia (IKAMA).
The IABC is affiliated with the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce
and Industry (Kadin). This allows the IABC to represent the
business and commercial interests of Indonesian and Australian
businesspeople engaged in bilateral trade through to government
levels.
The IABC is managed by an Executive Committee elected by the
membership. The executive committee is supported by a National
Secretariat. There are IABC branches in Jakarta, Bali, Semarang
(Central Java) and Surabaya (East Java). Discussions are being
held regarding the formation of a branch in Bandung. There are
currently over 350 members in Jakarta, 30 in Bali, 40 in Semarang
and 50 in Surabaya.
