JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The government is currently revising policies on electric vehicle incentives in Indonesia. This initiative has been positively received by industry stakeholders, including PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID).

HMID’s Chief Operating Officer, Fransiscus Soerjopranoto, stated that incentive policies are entirely within the government’s purview.

However, he emphasised the importance of sustained support to promote the use of more environmentally friendly energy.

According to Frans, electric vehicle incentives should not stop at tax relief or price reductions at the initial purchase.

He urged the government to also provide additional benefits during the vehicle’s ownership period, so that users experience long-term advantages.

In addition to consumer aspects, Hyundai highlighted the importance of support for dealer networks as part of the electric vehicle ecosystem.

Frans noted that dealers play a crucial role in educating potential users about the technology and benefits of environmentally friendly vehicles.

“To carry out that education, it requires effort from the dealers, which is why incentives or subsidies should, if possible, cover not only the purchase and then usage, but also the downstream supply chain, namely the dealers,” he said.

With a more comprehensive approach, from purchase to usage and support for dealer networks, it is hoped that the adoption of electric vehicles in Indonesia can increase more rapidly.

Appropriate incentive policies are considered key to accelerating the transition to cleaner and more sustainable mobility.
