A husband in Makassar has reported his wife to the police on allegations of involvement in child trafficking. In a shocking case, three biological children and one nephew are suspected to have been sold, with one of them reportedly “ordered” while still in the womb for a down payment of Rp1.8 million. The practice of child selling, allegedly involving a close family network, is currently under investigation by the South Sulawesi Provincial Police. Anto, 40, reported his own wife, initialled MT, 38, along with his in-laws, for the suspected sale of four children, consisting of three of their biological offspring and one nephew. Anto revealed that during their marriage, they had five children. However, he suspects three of them became victims. One of the most evident cases, according to him, is his stepchild, AI, who is alleged to have been sold by his wife along with her parents, his in-laws. “I received information from my wife that my stepchild, AI, had already been sold by my mother-in-law,” said Anto. From the information gathered, Anto’s suspicions grew stronger after hearing the local RT head’s admission regarding the fate of another of his children, initialled AZ. At that time, AZ was still in the womb, but reportedly, a buyer had already given a down payment of Rp1.8 million. Even after the baby was born, the buyer allegedly visited the wife and in-laws to demand fulfilment of the promise. “I know from the RT head that when my child was still in the womb, someone had already paid Rp1.8 million as a deposit. I heard from the RT head that the depositor came (after the baby was born) and argued because the baby had not been handed over,” he said. Not only that, Anto has also lost contact with another child, initialled AS, whom he has not seen for the last two months. He strongly suspects that AS has also become a victim of a similar sale. His concerns peaked after his wife herself recounted a suspicious transaction involving a baby from his sibling-in-law’s family. “My wife said that when her sibling gave birth, the baby was immediately taken by someone and paid Rp8 million,” he revealed. According to Anto, this incident began when his wife asked to go to her parents’ house to avoid illness during the rainy season. However, after more than a week had passed, his wife did not return. When Anto visited his in-laws’ house, his wife and children were no longer there. “I urged her to come home, but she refused. I went to my in-laws’ house, but my wife and children were already gone,” he said. This case is now proceeding at the South Sulawesi Provincial Police after being officially reported under number LP/B/248/III/2026/SPKT/POLDA SULAWESI SELATAN on 2 March 2026. The police are still conducting in-depth investigations to uncover the network strongly suspected of turning children into commodities in this case.
