Hundreds of North Sulawesi Police Personnel Clean Up Megamas Beach Area
Manado — Hundreds of North Sulawesi regional police personnel cleaned up the Megamas Beach area, one of Manado's premier tourist destinations, on Friday.
The clean-up was led by North Sulawesi Police Chief Inspector General Roycke Harry Langie, accompanied by Deputy Police Chief Brigadier General Awi Setiyono and other senior officials.
On the second day of the holy month of Ramadan, personnel were seen enthusiastically combing the beach area to collect plastic waste and household refuse carried in by the tide.
"This activity represents a concrete step by the North Sulawesi Police in supporting the Indonesia ASRI programme launched by President Prabowo Subianto to create a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment," said North Sulawesi Police Public Relations Head Commissioner Alamsyah P Hasibuan.
He said the choice of the Megamas area was based on its status as both a tourism icon and a major gathering point in Manado.
"This activity is a tangible form of the police's presence among the community, not only in maintaining security but also in preserving nature. Although we are now on the second day of Ramadan, the spirit of our members has not diminished in making the Indonesia ASRI programme a success," Alamsyah P Hasibuan said.
He expressed hope that the activity would spark collective awareness among the public and business operators around the beach to be more disciplined in waste management and maintaining environmental cleanliness.
"We hope this beach area, which is a source of pride for Manado residents, remains pristine. Cleanliness is our shared responsibility, especially during this blessed month," he said.
