Hundreds of MBG Kitchens from Java to Eastern Regions Temporarily Halted, Here's Why
The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) has once again suspended or temporarily halted operations of hundreds of Nutrition Fulfilment Service Units (SPPG) in Region II (Java Island) and Region III (eastern parts of Indonesia). This measure ensures the Free Nutritious Meals Programme (MBG) operates in line with quality and food safety standards. Director of Monitoring and Supervision for Region II, BGN, Albertus Doni Dewantoro, reported that as of now, the number of temporarily suspended SPPG in Region II stands at 362 units. In the report for the period of 6 to 10 April 2026, there were an additional 41 SPPG subjected to temporary suspension sanctions. “Up to today, the temporarily suspended SPPG in Region II number 362. This week’s report, from 6-10 April, includes 41 SPPG that were temporarily suspended. This enforcement is part of BGN’s commitment to maintaining service quality, food safety, and operational governance in the field,” Doni stated in his remarks, quoted on Sunday, 12 April 2026. From the detailed report, on Monday, 6 April 2026, nine SPPG were temporarily suspended due to various findings, such as the absence of nutrition and financial supervisors in Bogor, West Java; unfit menus in Brebes, Central Java; and several kitchens in East Java still undergoing renovations. There were no additional cases on Tuesday, 7 April 2026, but on Wednesday, 8 April 2026, the number of enforcements rose to 15 SPPG across various areas. Besides renovation factors, notable incidents included suspected digestive issues in Cimahi, West Java; organisational management problems in Kendal, Central Java; and the lack of nutrition supervisors in Purworejo, Central Java. Subsequently, on Thursday, 9 April 2026, 14 SPPG were again temporarily suspended. The issues identified encompassed human resource aspects in South Jakarta, as well as suspected digestive disturbances in Bogor, West Java; Tasikmalaya, West Java; and Bantul, Yogyakarta; alongside ongoing renovations that remained dominant. Then, on Friday, 10 April 2026, three SPPG were addressed, with findings including unfinished renovations, suspected digestive issues in Mojokerto, East Java; and unfit menus in Sampang, Madura. Meanwhile, in Region III, BGN has taken similar steps. Director of Monitoring and Supervision for Region III, BGN, Rudi Setiawan, noted that out of approximately 4,300 SPPG, 165 units have been temporarily suspended for lacking Hygiene Sanitation Certificates (SLHS) and not yet having wastewater treatment installations (IPAL).
