Hundreds of Malaysian Muslims Perform First Tarawih Prayers at Kuala Lumpur's National Mosque
Kuala Lumpur (ANTARA) — Hundreds of Muslims in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia performed the first Tarawih prayers of Ramadan 1447 Hijriah at the National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.
The Tarawih prayers at the National Mosque commenced at approximately 9.00pm Malaysian time, led by Imam Ahmad Mujahid bin Salleh Sani, and consisted of 20 rakaats.
Congregants who filled the main hall of the National Mosque were observed performing the sunnah muakkad prayers with deep devotion.
The Tarawih prayers concluded at approximately 11.00pm Malaysian time. Congregants expressed their pleasure at worshipping at the National Mosque, citing its strategic location and comfortable environment.
"It is a pleasure to pray here, because the venue is excellent and comfortable. The imam also has a melodious voice," said Rafiuddin, a congregant from Kuala Lumpur.
Another Malaysian resident, Eizral Eizarel Ezrin, said he had deliberately come with his family because the National Mosque is exceptionally beautiful.
The mosque, which has been standing since 1963, features fine architecture with its distinctive blue roof.
"The National Mosque is very beautiful. I came with my family, with my uncle and aunt," exclaimed Eizral.
Meanwhile, another Malaysian resident, Abdul Rasyid, said the National Mosque is one of the primary destinations for Tarawih prayers among Muslims in Kuala Lumpur, owing to its strategic location.
"The location is in the centre of the city and I live near the National Mosque. Transport is convenient, the car park is spacious — I am a regular here," said Abdul Rasyid.
The National Mosque in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia has a capacity to accommodate 15,000 worshippers.
With such a large capacity, the Muslim community in Kuala Lumpur can worship at the mosque comfortably, without the need to crowd together.
