Hundreds of Items Left Behind by Train Passengers Returned
PT KAI Operational Area (Daop) 3 Cirebon has recorded hundreds of instances of lost property within its working area. From January to 20 June 2026, KAI Daop 3 Cirebon logged 438 cases of items left behind, both at stations and inside train carriages. The types of items left behind range from laptops, tablets, Nintendo Switch consoles, suitcases, wallets, important documents, cash, mobile phones, and smartwatches, to gold. The estimated value of these items reached Rp477,514,000. “All of these found items have been returned to their owners,” said Muhibbuddin, Public Relations Manager of Daop 3 Cirebon, on Saturday (20/6). Muhibbuddin explained that the Lost and Found service is a facility provided by KAI to train service users who have lost or left behind items on the train or within the station environment. For passengers who believe they have lost an item, he urged them to report their missing belongings to the conductor on duty on the train, or to the Railway Special Police (Polsuska) officers on duty at the station. “You can also report lost items through the KAI Contact Centre 121,” said Muhibbuddin. After a train passenger reports a lost item, KAI will then conduct a search for the item. If the item can be found immediately, it will be returned directly to the person who reported it. “If the item cannot be found right away, a confirmation will be made via telephone to the reporter regarding the progress of handling the lost item,” said Muhibbuddin. He explained that if a passenger’s item is found on the train or within the station environment, KAI will immediately announce the discovery of the item over the public address system. After the announcement is made, if no party comes to collect the item, he said, the item will be stored at the station security post. Subsequently, the found item will be labelled as a found item, and its data will be verified and entered into the Lost and Found Database owned by KAI. By entering the found item data into the Lost and Found Database, officers can facilitate the search for lost items according to the characteristics or specifications of the items reported by passengers. “KAI’s Lost and Found data system is connected online and can be accessed at various stations, so that reporters who feel they have lost an item can report the item at any station,” said Muhibbuddin. Muhibbuddin urged passengers not to carry excessive baggage and to look after their belongings so they are not left behind at stations or on the train. “Make sure to check all your belongings in the seating area and luggage racks again so nothing is left behind,” said Muhibbuddin.
