Hundreds of Corruption Convicts Receive Eid Remission in Jambi to Central Java
Hundreds of convicts in corruption cases from various districts and cities in Indonesia have received remission, or sentence reductions, for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. These corruption convicts who received remission are spread across Jambi, Central Java, East Lombok, and Maluku. In Central Java, 8,872 inmates received remission, including 245 corruption convicts. The Head of the Directorate General of Corrections for Central Java Region, Mardi Santoso, stated that out of these 8,872 inmates, 61 are child inmates. “57 inmates are directly released after receiving remission,” Mardi said in Semarang on Saturday (21/3). He explained that the majority of remission recipients are inmates convicted of narcotics offences, numbering 3,157. Meanwhile, 245 corruption convicts received remission. “Other recipients include inmates convicted of terrorism, illegal logging, and money laundering,” he said. The total number of inmates and detainees in various prisons and detention centres in Central Java reaches 16,298. According to him, remission is the state’s recognition of inmates who have shown good behaviour and actively participated in rehabilitation programmes during their sentences. He explained that remission is given to inmates who have served at least six months of their sentence, have no disciplinary violations, and have a final court decision. “This remission is hoped to motivate inmates to continue behaving well and actively participating in rehabilitation programmes,” he said. In Jambi, 27 corruption convicts also received remission. In total, the Jambi Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections granted remission to 3,724 inmates or child inmates for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. The remission in Jambi consists of Special Remission (RK) for inmates and Special Sentence Reduction (PMPK) for child inmates. Details show that 3,657 people received RK I (partial sentence reduction), 30 received RK II (immediate release), and 37 child inmates received PMPK I. Irwan emphasised that this remission is hoped to motivate all inmates to continue improving themselves. Next, remission was also given to 3 corruption convicts out of a total of 347 inmates at the Class II B Selong Penitentiary in East Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara, who received Eid al-Fitr remission. “This year, 347 inmates received special Eid remission,” said the Head of the Class II B Selong Penitentiary, Sudirman, in East Lombok on Saturday. The details of the remission amounts obtained are: 64 people received 15 days’ remission, 245 received one month’s remission, 31 received one month and 15 days, and seven received two months’ remission. “Thus, a total of 347 people, including three corruption convicts,” he said. In Maluku, 430 inmates received Special Remission (RK) for Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah. The Head of the Maluku Regional Office of the Directorate General of Corrections, Ricky Dwi Biantoro, in Ambon on Saturday, stated that based on data as of 21 March 2026, a total of 430 people have received remission, consisting of 428 inmates and two child inmates. He explained that there were 443 inmates proposed for remission. However, seven inmates are still awaiting the decision letter (SK) due to data correction processes, while six others have received integrated SKs. “Remission is given to inmates who have met several requirements, including good behaviour, active participation in rehabilitation programmes, and having served at least six months of their sentence,” he said. He explained that the remission proposal process is conducted online through the Inmate Database System (SDP) to ensure transparency and accountability. Regarding the amounts, the remissions vary: 75 people received 15 days’ reduction, 273 received one month, 63 received one month and 15 days, and 19 received two months’ remission. Based on case types, child protection cases had the most recipients with 202 people. This was followed by narcotics cases with 65 people and corruption cases with 31 people. Nationwide Remission The Directorate General of Corrections of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Ditjen Kemenkumham) granted Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah/2026 CE remission to 155,908 inmates across Indonesia. The symbolic granting of remission decision letters (SK) was carried out by Dirjenpas Mashudi at the Narcotics Penitentiary in Gunung Sindur, Bogor, on Saturday. Mashudi stated that the granting of special remission (RK) and sentence reduction (PMP) to inmates is the state’s commitment to providing citizens’ rights after successfully undergoing rehabilitation well. “Special RK and PMP for Eid al-Fitr are given as the state’s recognition to inmates who have shown positive behavioural changes and participated well in rehabilitation programmes,” Mashudi said in his statement. He explained that out of the 155,908 special remission recipients, there are 154,785 inmates and 1,123 child inmates. Of the total inmates receiving Eid RK, 153,642 received RK I or partial sentence reduction, while 1,143 received RK II or immediate release. Meanwhile, 1,104 child inmates received Special PMP I and 19 received Special PMP II or immediate release. The largest number of RK and Special PMP Eid recipients this year come from the West Java Regional Office (Kanwil) Ditjenpas with 18,335 people, North Sumatra Kanwil Ditjenpas with 15,621 people, and East Java Kanwil Ditjenpas with 14,244 people. During the event, Mashudi delivered a written speech from Minister of Law and Human Rights Agus Andrianto, stating that the granting of remission is the state’s recognition to inmates. “We hope this momentum further motivates them to continue improving themselves and preparing themselves.”
