Bandung – A touching and spirited Ramadhan atmosphere filled Ibnu Umi Maktum Mosque at SLB Negeri A Pajajaran, Bandung, on Friday, 13 March 2026, as hundreds of blind students from special schools across Greater Bandung participated in a Qur’an recitation completion programme, religious address, and communal breaking of the fast.

This spiritual milestone was particularly significant as the blind participants successfully completed the full Qur’an recitation using Braille script.

The event was attended by approximately 300 special school students, 200 Islamic Education teachers from special schools across Greater Bandung, and 200 members of the Indonesian Blind Association (Pertuni) in Bandung.

M Munir, Director of Islamic Education at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, explained that the Directorate of Islamic Education is responsible for providing Islamic education guidance across various educational levels, from early childhood education through secondary schools, including special schools for students with disabilities.

“This event involved 300 special school students and 200 Islamic education teachers from special schools across Greater Bandung, as well as 200 members of Pertuni. These students are children blessed with special gifts from Almighty God and deserve our attention and care,” said Munir in a statement on Saturday, 14 March 2026.

He added that Islamic education teachers working in special schools also have a unique role. Some are themselves persons with disabilities, whilst others are not, but all are required to possess exceptional patience and capabilities in supporting and educating their students.

“Islamic education teachers in special schools include both disabled and non-disabled educators. They are equally exceptional in that they possess the patience, strength and extra capability needed to accompany and teach special school students,” he stated.

Director General of Islamic Education at the Ministry of Religious Affairs, Amien Suyitno, also expressed appreciation to the blind students, teachers, and mentors from Pertuni who guided them to become proficient in reading and completing the Braille Qur’an.

“We may not see with our eyes, but we must not be blind in our hearts and spirit,” said Amien whilst providing motivation to the students.
