Human Rights Minister Urges Military Prosecutors and Judges to Transparently Adjudicate Andrie Yunus Case
JAKARTA - The Minister of Human Rights, Natalius Pigai, has urged military prosecutors and the panel of judges to conduct the trial process in the case of the acid attack on Kontras activist Andrie Yunus with full transparency.
Pigai stressed that openness is essential so that the public can monitor the legal proceedings and ensure justice for the victim and his family.
“We also request that the military prosecutors and judges truly open up the process transparently so that it can be conveyed to the public, allowing them to follow developments closely,” Pigai said during a press conference at the Ministry of Human Rights office in Jakarta on Monday (20/4/2026).
Pigai stated that his ministry was the first to address and condemn the acid attack incident on Andrie Yunus, describing it as an act of thuggery.
Currently, the legal process is underway through the military court mechanism, and suspects have been identified.
“The Ministry of Human Rights condemns the act and describes it as thuggery regarding the incident,” he revealed.
Meanwhile, the Military Court II-08 Jakarta has appointed three judges to hear the case: Colonel Chk Fredy Ferdian Isnartanto, Lieutenant Colonel Kum Irwan Tasri, and Major (N) M. Zainal Abidin.
Spokesperson for the Military Court II-08 Jakarta, Major Chk Endah Wulandari, explained that the appointment of the panel of judges was based on a determination by the head of the court through an application system.
The court also assured that the trial will be held openly to the public.
Head of the Military Prosecution II-07 Jakarta, Colonel Chk Andri Wijaya, disclosed that the preliminary motive in this case is a personal grudge against the victim.
However, more detailed explanations will be provided during the trial at the reading of the indictment.
