Human behavior depicted in commercials

Human behavior depicted in commercials

From Kompas

TV commercials are so astonishing in terms of their style and
language that I, as a viewer, often wonder whether I am still in
Indonesia, a highly cultured country renowned for its polite and
religious people and their customs and mores.

Laden with sexual suggestiveness, today's TV commercials are
expressed in vulgar and almost pornographic language. Sometimes,
judgment on behalf of the censors seems to be lacking. One
commercial shows a child who does not respect his parents, while
another depicts a child grabbing food from someone older than he
is, or portrays a parent relishing some delicious food, while his
child simply looks on with his mouth watering.

I am not opposed to commercials or advertisements in general,
but besides conveying the message, they should also take into
account different levels of age, moral norms, ethics, etiquette
and religious values.

To ensure that these criteria are complied with, the relevant
authorities should subject all ads in the print and electronic
media to their supervision.
