TV commercials are so astonishing in terms of their style and
\nlanguage that I, as a viewer, often wonder whether I am still in
\nIndonesia, a highly cultured country renowned for its polite and
\nreligious people and their customs and mores.<\/p>\n
Laden with sexual suggestiveness, today's TV commercials are
\nexpressed in vulgar and almost pornographic language. Sometimes,
\njudgment on behalf of the censors seems to be lacking. One
\ncommercial shows a child who does not respect his parents, while
\nanother depicts a child grabbing food from someone older than he
\nis, or portrays a parent relishing some delicious food, while his
\nchild simply looks on with his mouth watering.<\/p>\n
I am not opposed to commercials or advertisements in general,
\nbut besides conveying the message, they should also take into
\naccount different levels of age, moral norms, ethics, etiquette
\nand religious values.<\/p>\n
To ensure that these criteria are complied with, the relevant
\nauthorities should subject all ads in the print and electronic
\nmedia to their supervision.<\/p>\n
