HS Tobacco Boss Covers All Victims' Medical Costs and Awards Scholarships After Harley-Davidson Crash

VIVA – The health condition of Yogyakarta-born entrepreneur Haji Muhammad Suryo continues to show positive progress following a motorcycle accident in Simpang Empat Mlangsen, Palihan Village, Temon District, Kulon Progo, on Sunday afternoon, 1 March 2026. In the incident, his wife Anis Syarifah (41) died and was laid to rest on Monday, 2 March 2026. Suryo sustained fatal injuries when he was riding a Harley-Davidson motorcycle with his wife Anis Syarifah. The Harley collided with a Yamaha Jupiter M rider on the Purworejo-Wates National Road, causing her death. The founder of Surya Group and tobacco businessman HS is currently receiving treatment at RS JIH Yogyakarta.

Amid convalescence and mourning, Suryo said he would take full responsibility for the other victims of the crash, Abdullah and his son Deva. They are currently being treated in the VIP ward at RSUD Wates, Kulon Progo, with all medical costs covered by Surya Group.

Representives of Suryo’s family visited Abdullah’s wife at RSUD Wates on Tuesday, 2 March 2026, to pay respects and deliver direct assistance. The family confirmed that all medical treatment for Abdullah and Deva will be borne until they recover.

In addition to medical costs, Suryo also provided a new motorcycle to replace the damaged vehicle. He also guaranteed Deva’s education—who is currently in grade 4 of primary school—through a full scholarship to university.

‘The request for prayers for the smooth recovery of Mr Suryo and the victims,’ said Suryo’s representative on Tuesday, 3 March 2026.

Mutual forgiveness via video call: The emotional moment between Haji Muhammad Suryo and Abdullah took place via video call on 3 March 2026. Suryo, still in hospital, opened the call by apologising.

‘Pangapunten nggih, Pak, dhalem mboten saget sowan nggih. Kula ugi njaluk sepura yen ana salahku, mohon maaf nggih, Pak’ (Please forgive me, Sir; I cannot come to visit in person. I also apologise if I have done anything wrong; I am sorry, Sir),’ he said during the video call on 3 March 2026 while still in hospital.
