How to Report Temporary Change of Residence for Migrant Residents: The Steps Involved
Following Eid al-Fitr, many residents decide to leave their home areas and temporarily reside in destination cities for work or to continue their studies. The Directorate General of Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) of the Ministry of Home Affairs reminds the public of the importance of promptly synchronising population data to ensure public services run smoothly. Citing the Dukcapil website of the Ministry of Home Affairs, post-Eid population mobility often triggers temporary changes of residence. According to Dukcapil Director General Teguh Setyabudi, unupdated population data can hinder access to health services, education, social assistance, and banking administration. Therefore, the public is urged to synchronise their data to guarantee that citizens’ rights are easily fulfilled. Residents who have temporarily relocated after Eid are advised to report immediately to the nearest Dukcapil Office. This data synchronisation is crucial to ensure public services operate without obstacles. Here is how to report a temporary change of residence. - Visit the Dukcapil Office in the temporary residence area. Changing residence no longer requires an introductory letter from the neighbourhood unit (RT), community unit (RW), or sub-district. The public can go directly to the local Dukcapil Office. - Bring basic documents (e-KTP and KK) and report to the Dukcapil Office at the destination, or handle it through the online application or local sub-district. For students or workers away from home, simply bring the original e-KTP and KK to the nearest Dukcapil Office to report the move. This process is easy, quick, and free to keep documents updated and valid. - Submit an application for temporary change of residence or report presence. Residents who have not yet obtained a Change of Residence Certificate (SKP) but are already at the destination will have the Dukcapil officers coordinate with the origin area. - Ensure data on KK and e-KTP is updated as needed. This is the importance of reporting to the nearest Dukcapil Office to ensure that migrant residents are recorded for public services (school, employment, social assistance) in the new residence area. - Activate the Digital Population Identity (IKD) for more practical access to services. The public is urged to activate IKD at the nearest Dukcapil Office immediately. IKD makes access to public services more practical, quick, and secure without needing to carry physical documents. Tips for Managing Population Documents - Regularly check data. Occasionally check family data via the IKD application or online services. Ensure everything is correct and up to date. - Update if there are changes. If there is a new family member, a death, or a recent marriage after Eid, report it immediately to keep the data organised. - Try activating IKD. Using IKD is more practical; any matters become easier without the hassle of carrying physical files. - Do not delay data synchronisation. The sooner we synchronise the data, the more peace of mind for the future. So, there is no need to worry if suddenly needed for population administration matters.
