How to Register MSMEs Online: Obtaining Business Identification Numbers and Permits via Mobile Phone
The public can now register Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) online. Business Identification Numbers (NIB) and Business Permits can now be obtained via mobile phone.
Based on data compiled on Wednesday (14/5/2025), MSME operators can obtain business legality quickly and practically by utilising the risk-based business licensing system through the Online Single Submission (OSS) platform managed by the Ministry of Investment/BKPM. This is one of the government's efforts to promote digitalisation and enhance the competitiveness of Indonesia's MSME sector.
By holding a NIB and Business Permit, MSME operators will find it easier to access government programmes, including business assistance, business credit financing, training and business mentoring.
The following is the procedure for registering an MSME online to obtain a NIB and Business Permit:
1. Open the official OSS website at https://oss.go.id via a mobile browser.
2. Create an account if you do not already have one. Use a National Identity Number (NIK) matching your identity card data for account registration.
3. Once the account is created, log in using the registered email and password.
4. On the OSS dashboard, click the "Business Licensing" menu, then select the "Individual" option.
5. If you are a micro enterprise owner, select "Individual Micro NIB Registration." For small enterprises, select "Individual Small NIB Registration."
6. Proceed to the NIB and Business Permit application process. You will be directed to a Profile Data form; fill in the available fields such as business name, type of activity, business address and other details.
7. Once completed, click "Save" and proceed to the next form, namely Business Data.
8. In this section, click "Add Business" and fill in all information relating to your business activities, including business sector, location and number of employees. Then click "Save" and "Next."
9. If you have more than one type of business, you may add additional business data by pressing the "Add Business" button.
10. You may also fill in the Business Premises Commitment form to apply for a Location Permit and Environmental Permit if required. Once completed, click "Next."
11. You will be directed to a data summary page. Here, you can review all the information you have entered. Ensure all data is correct and accurate.
12. Tick the disclaimer checkbox confirming that the data you have provided is truthful, then click "Process NIB."
13. Once the process is complete, you will receive documents comprising your NIB, Business Permit, and other documents such as Location Permit and Environmental Permit (if applicable) in PDF format, which can be downloaded and printed.
