How to Register MSMEs Online and Obtain a Business Identification Number via Mobile Phone
The public can now register Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) online. The process of obtaining a Business Identification Number (NIB) and Business Licence can now be completed via mobile phone.
Based on data compiled on Wednesday (14/5/2025), MSME operators can obtain business legality quickly and practically by utilising the risk-based business licensing system through the Online Single Submission (OSS) platform managed by the Ministry of Investment/BKPM. This is one of the government's efforts to promote digitalisation and enhance the competitiveness of the MSME sector in Indonesia.
By possessing a NIB and Business Licence, MSME operators will find it easier to access government programmes, such as business grants, business credit financing, training and business mentoring.
The following are the steps to register an MSME online to obtain a NIB and Business Licence:
1. Open the official OSS website at https://oss.go.id through a mobile browser.
2. Create an account if you do not already have one. Use a National Identity Number (NIK) that matches your identity card data for account registration.
3. Once the account is created, log in using the registered email and password.
4. On the OSS dashboard, click the "Business Licensing" menu and select the "Individual" option.
5. If you are a micro enterprise owner, select "Individual Micro NIB Registration." For small enterprises, select "Individual Small NIB Registration."
6. Proceed to complete the NIB and Business Licence form. You will be directed to a Profile Data form — fill in the available fields such as business name, type of activity, business address and other details.
7. Once completed, click "Save" and proceed to the next form, namely Business Data.
8. In this section, click "Add Business" and fill in all information related to your business activities, including business sector, location and number of employees. Then click "Save" and "Next."
9. If you have more than one type of business, you can add additional business data by pressing the "Add Business" button.
10. You may also complete the Business Premises Commitment form for Location Permit and Environmental Permit applications if required. Once finished, click "Next."
11. You will be directed to a data summary page. Here, you can review all the information entered. Ensure all data is correct and accurate.
12. Tick the disclaimer box confirming that the data provided is accurate, then click "Process NIB."
13. Once the process is complete, you will receive documents comprising the NIB, Business Licence and other documents such as the Location Permit and Environmental Permit (if completed) in PDF format, which can be downloaded and printed.
