How to Clear Your Name from the BI Checking Blacklist or OJK's SLIK
Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia — People seeking loans from financial institutions should pay attention to their credit history in the Financial Services Information System (SLIK) owned by the Financial Services Authority (OJK). The system, formerly known as BI Checking, has become one of the main references used by financial institutions when assessing a prospective debtor’s creditworthiness.
The credit records stored in SLIK will greatly affect an individual’s chances of obtaining financing. Various loan products such as Mortgage Credit (KPR), Unsecured Personal Loans (KTA), and motor vehicle financing typically require a good credit history.
If someone has a poor credit score, their name can be placed on the financial industry’s blacklist. This can result in new credit applications being rejected by banks or financing companies.
Nevertheless, problematic credit status does not mean it cannot be improved. Debtors still have a chance to recover their credit score to regain access to various financing services.
OJK’s Executive Director of Supervisory for Financing Institutions, Venture Capital Companies, Microfinance Institutions and Other Financial Service Institutions, Agusman, said that SLIK data can be updated after the borrower has made payments or taken steps in accordance with applicable regulations.
In fact, SLIK checks can now be performed independently. Therefore, individuals should check their credit score before applying for a loan.
Citing the pegadaian.co.id site, OJK’s SLIK scores are divided into five. A customer with a score of 1 has the best credit history, while someone with a score of 5 has problems with defaults.
Note that only debtors with scores 1 and 2 can apply for credit from banks without issues. Customers with scores 3, 4, and 5 need to rehabilitate their score first.
To know the credit score, you can do so via the official site idebku.ojk.go.id. So, what should you do if you already have a bad credit record?
If there are still outstanding loan arrears, the only way to clean a bad credit record is to settle the outstanding obligations.
However, there is a possibility that arrears arise due to an error. If you suspect this, you should contact or report the issue to the relevant party.
Typically, SLIK data updates will be made within up to 30 days after settlement. You can also request a ‘lunas certificate’ (SKL) as proof when applying for new credit.
