How to Clear Your Name from Bad Credit in OJK SLIK or BI Checking
Jakarta – Citizens should pay attention to their credit score within the Financial Services Information System (SLIK) administered by the Financial Services Authority (OJK), previously known as BI Checking, to facilitate loan application processes.
If a credit score is poor, loan applications may be impeded. Financial institutions such as banks and multifinance companies can reject credit applications.
Furthermore, the OJK has mandated that peer-to-peer (P2P) lending platforms report data to SLIK. Consequently, borrowing history on P2P lending services will also affect an individual’s credit score.
Before this regulation was released, the Indonesian Real Estate Association (REI) reported that 40% of housing credit (KPR) applications were rejected due to poor credit scores, attributing this to instalment arrears from online loans.
Additionally, the OJK highlighted cases of job seekers who failed to secure employment due to obstacles from poor credit scores in the OJK SLIK system.
Agusman, Executive Head of Supervision for Financing Institutions, Venture Capital Companies, Microfinance Institutions, and Other Financial Services at the OJK, stated that SLIK data can be updated once the borrower has made payment or taken steps in accordance with applicable regulations.
Currently, SLIK checks can be performed independently. Therefore, individuals should check their credit score before submitting a loan application.
According to pegadaian.co.id, the OJK SLIK score is divided into five categories. Customers with a score of 1 have the best credit history, whilst those with a score of 5 have problem credit with default accounts.
Only borrowers with scores of 1 and 2 can apply for credit from banks without encountering issues. Customers with scores of 3, 4, and 5 must first clean up their score.
To find out a credit score, it can be done through the official website idebku.ojk.go.id. So, how does one proceed if already having a poor credit record?
If there are still outstanding credits unresolved, the only way to clean up a poor credit record is to settle unresolved obligations.
However, there is a possibility that credit arrears appear due to an error. If suspected, then contact or report the issue to the relevant party.
Typically, SLIK OJK data updates will be carried out within a maximum of 30 days from settlement. You can also request a settlement certificate (SKL) as proof for submitting a new credit application.
