The amount of zakat al-Fitr for 2026 has been set by BAZNAS RI. Quoting the official BAZNAS site, zakat al-Fitr for 2026 is Rp50,000 per person, equivalent to 2.5 kilograms or 3.5 litres of premium rice, while fidyah for 2026 is Rp65,000.

So, how should the zakat al-Fitr payment be calculated this year? Here is the explanation, according to the Indonesia Baik page.

How to Calculate Zakat al-Fitr 2026

  1. Determine the number of family members who are obliged to pay zakat

Examples:

  • Oneself

  • Wife

  • Two children

  1. Multiply the number of family members by the zakat per person

Zakat al-Fitr 2026 is Rp 50,000 per person or 2.5 kilograms or 3.5 litres of premium rice. If a family has four people, the calculation is:

  • 4 people x 2.5 kg = 10 kg (zakat in the form of rice)

  • 4 people x Rp 50,000 = Rp 200,000 (zakat in cash)

When to Start Paying Zakat al-Fitr?

Zakat al-Fitr (zakat al-fitr) is a zakat obligatory on every Muslim, male and female, paid during the month of Ramadan and completed before Eid al-Fitr. The obligation of zakat al-Fitr is based on the hadith of Ibn Umar:

“The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) enjoined zakat al-Fitr one sha’ of dates or one sha’ of barley on the Muslim community; slave or free, male or female, young or old. He ordered that it be carried out before people go out for the prayer.” (HR Bukhari Muslim)

Zakat al-Fitr must be paid by every soul, with the condition of being Muslim, alive during Ramadan, and having surplus sustenance or basic needs for the night and Eid al-Fitr. The amount is 2.5 kg or 3.5 litres of rice or staple food per person.

Based on the Chairman of BAZNAS Decree No. 14 of 2026 on the Zakat Fitrah and Fidyah BAZNAS for 1447 H/2026 M, it is determined that the zakat al-Fitr amount is 2.5 kg or 3.5 litres of rice or staple food per person, or equivalent to cash worth Rp 50,000 per person.

Zakat al-Fitr can be paid from the start of Ramadan and no later than before the Eid al-Fitr prayers. Meanwhile, the distribution of zakat al-Fitr to mustahik should be completed no later than before the Eid prayers, i.e., before the khatib ascends the pulpit.
