How Riau Police Chief Celebrates Eid: No Open House, Distributes Tree Seedlings
The Riau Regional Police (Polda Riau) is utilising the moment of Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijriah to carry out environmental conservation actions. Without an open house celebration, Riau Police Chief Irjen Pol Herry Heryawan will instead distribute tree seedlings as an ‘ecological charity’ to his subordinates.
The activity is planned to take place after Eid prayers on Saturday (21/3/2026). This step follows a circular from the Minister Secretary of State and a telegram from the National Police Chief regarding the implementation of halal bihalal and Eid open houses.
Polda Riau will conduct Eid al-Fitr greetings in a simple manner. Without lavish parties, the event will involve distributing tree seedlings that will become ecological charity for members of the Riau Regional Police.
“In following the circular from the State Secretary and the telegram from the National Police Chief, Polda Riau wants to do something different during this Eid al-Fitr celebration. We are not holding halal bihalal or an open house as a show of solidarity with fellow countrymen who may not be able to celebrate Victory Day in decent conditions because they have just been hit by natural disasters,” said Irjen Herry on Friday (20/3/2026).
The Police Chief hopes his subordinates will use the Eid greetings momentum, which coincides with World Forestry Day, to deliver justice to nature in line with the spirit of Green Policing.
“I hope these seedlings are planted and cared for so they become beneficial ecological charity for the environment and society, as well as our green investment for Riau’s land,” he said.
“The distribution of these tree seedlings is certainly in line with the Green Policing programme we are promoting to restore Riau’s environmental conditions to sustainability,” he added.
The event is expected to strengthen the bonds of greetings among police members and boost their work spirit. Herry also wants to set a good example by holding simple and beneficial greetings at the Riau Police Headquarters after Eid prayers.
“We want police members to feel togetherness and solidarity, as well as increase awareness of the importance of preserving the environment. We hope what we are doing can serve as an example for the public and other institutions to carry out environmental conservation actions,” concluded the Riau Police Chief.
