Houses Submerged in 5-Metre Flood in Periuk, Tangerang
Tangerang — Flooding has covered nearly the entire Periuk Damai residential complex in Periuk District, Tangerang City, on Monday, 9 March 2026.
Brown-coloured floodwaters reaching depths of five metres have submerged rows of residents’ houses. Some homes are visible only by their roofs, with residents’ belongings stacked on top to prevent them from being swept away by the current. Mattresses, plastic chairs, and buckets have been deliberately placed at the highest points.
The once-bustling residential area has become eerily quiet. Streets within the complex are no longer visible, covered by high floodwaters. Rubber boats occasionally pass between the submerged houses, used to evacuate residents still sheltering indoors and to retrieve important items left behind.
During a visit to the area, several residents were observed standing on the second floors of their homes awaiting assistance. Numerous electrical cables, nearly submerged due to the flood’s height, have been deactivated for resident safety.
“The electricity has been completely off since yesterday,” said Hery (45), a Periuk Damai resident, when met on Monday.
Residents who have been successfully evacuated have sought refuge in safer locations around the residential area. Some have moved to relatives’ homes, whilst others have taken shelter at designated evacuation centres, including Al Jihad Mosque.
